From Your Board of Directors
|
|
Dear Members & Friends of CCMCC,
We have scheduled our second "What's Next?" forum for Wednesday, September 16th at 7pm in Davis Hall. We know that you had indicated interest in holding the next forum on a Sunday after church. Our
weekend schedule for the next month is quite full, and we felt that it
was important to continue our discussions of our collective vision for
CCMCC.
After prayerful consideration, Mary Louise Upshaw has resigned her position on the Board of Directors. She will remain active in worship and social action, and we appreciate the time of service that she gave to the Board. Mary Louise is a long-time member of CCMCC and will remain available to help out wherever she can.
The Pastoral Search Committee has been chosen and will begin meeting next week to develop plans for the search process. We will keep you informed of our progress through announcements and the Chimes. We ask again that you keep sharing your ideas, suggestions, and concerns. We are here to serve you and welcome your comments. You can contact any of us individually or email us as a group at bod@christcovenantmcc.org
Peace and Love, CCMCC Board of Directors

CCMCC Workshop Schedule
|
|
August 30, 2009, Sunday, immediately after Church service, Davis Hall (Brown Bag Lunch) Church Culture: A System of Shared Orientations - led by Helen Malone - The idea of church culture and climate is based on the nature of organizational culture. This is defined as the shared philosophies, ideologies, beliefs, feelings, assumptions, expectations, attitudes, norms, and values. It is an attempt to capture the basic feel or sense of the organization; a system of shared orientations that hold the group together and give it a distinctive identity.
September 12, 2009, Saturday, 10am - 2pm, (RSVP required as the Hospitality Team will be providing a light lunch) The Change Cycle - led by Rev. Elder Lillie Brock - Change has always been a necessary aspect of life and work, and our world is changing more rapidly than ever. It is likely that you will have to cope with a variety of changes in the near future. Your success and fulfillment - your emotional, mental, spiritual and physical well-being - depend on how well you adapt to change. People react, respond and adjust to change in a sequence of six predictable stages. The Change Cycle model identifies the thoughts, feelings and behaviors associated with each stage of change. There is no better map to assist you in navigating through the changes in your life. Please visit the website changecycle.com for more information and complete details. To RSVP for this workshop please send an email to christcovenant@christcovenantmcc.org
September 20, 2009, Sunday, immediately after the service in Davis Hall - The Board of Directors will provide a pizza and salad lunch and we will discuss the topic- Create Your Ideal Pastor - led by skilled artisan volunteers from our congregation - An arts and crafts exercise with group discussion to wrap up session. This will end our scheduled transitions workshops and forums.

Grilln' Out at the Drive-In
|
|
Come cookout with us at the Starlight Drive-In Theatre this Saturday night , Aug. 29. Grilling out is back by popular demand. Bring enough hot dogs or burgers and buns to grill for your family. Then sign up with Bugg for a dish to share or an item from our condiments or paper product list. We will have a couple of tables for food set up. Plan to meet at the church at 7 pm so we can carpool to the theatre and save from taking so many vehicles. We don't have the movie schedule yet, but out of six screens, we should be able to find something everyone would like to see. You'll also need to bring lawn chairs, bug spray (or citronella buckets), snacks, sodas (glass prohibited), and you might want to throw in a light jacket since it can get cool in the late evening. If you need to meet us at the theatre it is located at :2000 Moreland Avenue (404 627 5786). The cost is $7 (cash only) a person. What could be more fun than sitting under the stars watching a movie with friends and cooking out?
RSVP to Barbara Bugg. We want to know who will be meeting us at the Church so we don't leave anyone and to know what dish you will bring!
Sponsored by your Connections Team! |
Spaghetti Dinner & Silent Auction
|
|
Saturday night, September 19th we will have another fun filled night at the church. The evening will consist of a Spaghetti dinner and a Silent Auction. What we are asking is that since spaghetti sauce is one of those things that everyone makes a little differently, how about breaking out your cookbooks... making your special sauce and bring it to the church to share with your friends. We will provide the salad, various noodles, bread and drink and this will be a free dinner for everyone.
SAVE THE DATE... More details to come!

Fall Retreat

"One Spirit, One Body"
Text for Retreat; I Corinthians
12:12
I just want to share how excited I am about this year's
retreat. After a planning session last night, I left feeling that this is going
to be the best retreat CCMCC has experienced. I want to share that because I
don't want anyone to miss the opportunity of experiencing this retreat. The
text just lends itself to the possibility of so much spiritual growth and
discussion. It also challenges us to explore who we are as individuals, as a
church and who we can become.
The dates are Nov. 20-22 and it will again be held at Camp
Mikell in Taccoa, Ga. The cost is $85 per person for dorm space and $135 per
person for cabin space. This will include all your meals from dinner Friday
night through lunch on Sunday. Cabins are first come with your deposit. Dorms will
be by a mens dorm, a quiet dorm and the late talkers' dorm.
You will see some changes in the scheduling this year but
will have to keep reading the Chimes weekly as we continue to update you on
"happenings" for the weekend. Your first tidbit is that Saturday evening after
dinner is going to be all about "fun" including a bonfire and samores. Also,
each person attending the retreat for the first time will be assigned a retreat
buddy. It will be the buddy's responsibility to share what to expect at
retreat, answer questions before retreat, help their new buddy feel welcome
when they arrive at camp and make sure they feel a part of the group during the
weekend. Last year I was a buddy and being a buddy has led to a great
friendship.
If anyone would like to sponsor a scholarship for the
weekend please contact myself or Jane. We are hoping to be able to offer
several scholarships or partial scholarships.
If you have questions, flag me down at church or contact me
through connections@christcovenantmcc.org.
Bugg
We will not have open registration the day of the retreat at Camp Mikell as we have in previous years. No fees or registration for the retreat will be accepted after November 10, 2009.
Retreat planning meetings:
Sept 9, Sept 23, Oct 7, Oct 21, Nov 4, Nov 18
