Dear Members & Friends of CCMCC,
As autumn approaches, great things are happening at CCMCC. The Pastoral Search Committee began meeting this week to develop plans for our pastoral search process. The surveys you submitted will be a huge help during the planning, and we appreciate everyone who took the time to complete one. The Retreat Committee is meeting regularly to finalize plans for our retreat in November. It promises to be a wonderful weekend of worship, fellowship, and reflection. Upcoming workshops and forums will be facilitated by lay leaders within our community as well as distinguished clergy from MCC. With Thanksgiving and Christmas just around the corner, our ministry teams are already planning outreach activities for our church community and the community beyond our walls. It is an exciting time at Christ Covenant! We are in the position to re-define ourselves and our church community, to determine those things that are important to us and work toward our goals together. Our faith and community spirit have brought us this far and will continue to lead us down the right path.
The Church is in need of a 30-gallon hot water heater. Current general operating funds are used to keep our bills and payments up to date, but do not provide additional funds for emergency expenses. The cost will be $350 plus taxes and installation. We have always been a very resourceful community, so we ask that you help us find a solution to this problem. If you are able to make this purchase or have it donated, please contact us at bod@christcovenantmcc.org. You help is greatly appreciated. We are all in this together, and together we can overcome any obstacle!
Peace and Love, CCMCC Board of Directors

People react, respond and adjust to change in a sequence of six predictable stages. The Change Cycle model identifies the thoughts, feelings and behaviors associated with each stage of change. There is no better map to assist you in navigating through the changes in your life. Please visit the website changecycle.com for more information and complete details. To RSVP for this workshop please send an email to christcovenant@christcovenantmcc.org
September 20, 2009, Sunday, immediately after the service in Davis Hall - The Board of Directors will provide a pizza and salad lunch and we will discuss the topic- Create Your Ideal Pastor - led by skilled artisan volunteers from our congregation - An arts and crafts exercise with group discussion to wrap up session. Remember to mark your calendar for our Fun- Filled Spaghetti Dinner & Silent Auction at CCMCC!
This is a FREE night for everyone, but we will be having a silent auction if you would like to participate. We will be inviting our neighbors who live around the church and their families and the events will start at 5:30 pm. We hope to have the bounce house like we did at Easter. We will start eating around 6:00 pm and the auction will end around 7:30 pm. There are a few items that will be up for live auction. The event will end around 8:00 pm.
The hospitality team will provide the spaghetti, bread and drinks. Everyone makes their spaghetti sauce differently and if you do cook then please make your special sauce and bring it to share with your friends. If you do not cook, that is ok, come anyway, there will be plenty to go 'round!
**PLEASE BRING YOUR SAUCE IN A CROCK POT. We will be using the stove for the spaghetti and won't have enough space to heat everyone's sauce.
Dana and Michelle Clark will provide "mini" guitar and drum lessons. I have been taking guitar lessons for a month and it is lots of fun. Dana is a wonderful teacher!
If you have a business or know someone who would contribute to our silent auction please have them call me @ 678-367-7662 or email me at:hospitality@christcovenantmcc.org

Marsha Stevens-Pino in concert
|
|
Saturday night, September 26, 7pm
Marsha Stevens-Pino will be here to rock the house! Save the time and date! You won't want to miss out on this awesome experience!
Born Marsha Carter, the talented performer wrote what would
become Children of the Day's classic hit, "For Those Tears I Died (Come to the Water)" when she was just sixteen. One of the most popular songs of the Jesus movement, "For Those Tears I Died" is a moving testimony to God's saving grace, replete with images of baptism and liberation...the song was featured on what was destined to become the most important Christian music album of all time,
Maranatha's The Everlastin' Living Jesus Music Concert, the record that put the Jesus movement revival into high gear, spreading its influence from Calvary Chapel in Costa Mesa throughout the country and beyond. "For Those Tears I Died" became one of the best known Christian folk songs of the decade. It would be translated into numerous languages, recorded by countless artists and, for a time, could be found in practically every evangelical songbook in the country. No one in 1969 could have predicted it would have such influence in the decade ahead - much less that, for two decades
beyond, Christian congregations would be ripping the song out of their hymnals,
systematically binding up the pages and mailing them off to Stevens as a symbol of the hostility they felt toward one who continued to love Jesus and sing His praises when they thought she was no longer entitled to do so...
Stevens became the first (and as of 2002, the only) major singer in the contemporary Christian music subculture to identify herself publicly as a lesbian...Christian Century Magazine has said that Stevens became "conservative Christianity's worst nightmare - a Jesus-loving, Bible-believing, God-fearing lesbian Christian."
Somewhat ironically, Stevens has continued to represent "the spirit of the Jesus
movement" more faithfully than anyone else from that era. In the early '70s, Christian bands often traveled the country in vans or buses, playing wherever and whenever they could in exchange for a free-will offering and a chance to give their testimonies.
Likewise, Stevens spent the (past 10 years) in an RV doing from 120-200 concerts a year...she eschews worldly possessions, fame, fortune and all the rest for the simple opportunity of telling the old, old story of Jesus and His love.

Fall Retreat

One Spirit, One Body
For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in the one Spirit we were all
baptized into one body- Jews or Greeks, slaves or free- and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. -1 Corinthians 12:12-13
I just want to share how excited I am about this year's
retreat. After a planning session last night, I left feeling that this is going
to be the best retreat CCMCC has experienced. I want to share that because I
don't want anyone to miss the opportunity of experiencing this retreat. The
text just lends itself to the possibility of so much spiritual growth and
discussion. It also challenges us to explore who we are as individuals, as a
church and who we can become.
The dates are Nov. 20-22 and it will again be held at Camp
Mikell in Taccoa, Ga. The cost is $85 per person for dorm space and $135 per
person for cabin space. This will include all your meals from dinner Friday
night through lunch on Sunday. Cabins are first come with your deposit. Dorms will
be by a mens dorm, a quiet dorm and the late talkers' dorm.
You will see some changes in the scheduling this year but
will have to keep reading the Chimes weekly as we continue to update you on
"happenings" for the weekend. Your first tidbit is that Saturday evening after
dinner is going to be all about "fun" including a bonfire and samores. Also,
each person attending the retreat for the first time will be assigned a retreat
buddy. It will be the buddy's responsibility to share what to expect at
retreat, answer questions before retreat, help their new buddy feel welcome
when they arrive at camp and make sure they feel a part of the group during the
weekend. Last year I was a buddy and being a buddy has led to a great
friendship.
If anyone would like to sponsor a scholarship for the
weekend please contact myself or Jane. We are hoping to be able to offer
several scholarships or partial scholarships.
If you have questions, flag me down at church or contact me
through connections@christcovenantmcc.org.

We will not have open registration the day of the retreat at Camp Mikell as we have in previous years. No fees or registration for the retreat will be accepted after November 10, 2009.

The retreat team is meeting every other week to plan and prepare for a restful and
rewarding time together at Camp Mikell. Our journey begins with dinner on Friday evening followed by introductions and a small group activity. During the weekend we will think about the Body metaphor that the apostle Paul is speaking of in his letter to the church at Corinth. You may want to begin this journey before November 20th by reading the 12th chapter of 1 Corinthians and thinking about different body images. There will be some art, some meditation and prayer, some singing, a lot of fun and
re-creation. We will cap off our time together with worship on Sunday morning.
Marshall-Grant Ministries and Satin Britches will be with us all weekend to
provide music. Thanks to everyone who is able and willing to take the time to get
together. We form bonds on these retreats that are not possible with brief Sunday
encounters.
