From Your Board of Directors
Dear Members & Friends of CCMCC,

It was another great weekend at Christ Covenant!  We had fun and fabulous food at the Spaghetti Dinner on Saturday night.  The silent auction raised about $400 and included gift certificates from local businesses.  Thanks to Beth Anderson for coordinating the event and to everyone who participated.

On Sunday, Mary Louise Upshaw facilitated a workshop for building our "ideal" pastor.  We found that each group at the workshop "built" a very similar pastor and reinforces the responses from the survey distributed last month.  It is refreshing to know that we are all on the same page and that we are moving in the same direction.  Thanks to Mary Louise for leading this workshop.

We have a lot planned in the next few months.  Please take some time to read the announcements in the Chimes and check out the events listing on our new and improved website, www.christcovenantmcc.org

Peace and Love,
CCMCC Board of Directors
From the Hospitality Team...
Thanks to those who came out on a very rainy Saturday to support our Spaghetti Dinner and silent auction.  We had many different sauces to sample and all were wonderful! The silent auction made about $400 for the church and it was such a great time on top of that!

Board News...
Our Vice Moderator, Barbara Bugg, will be out of town for 10 days beginning tomorrow, September 25th. Linda Armstrong will be filling in while she is gone.
Marsha Stevens-Pino in concert!
Marsha Stevens-Pino will be here to rock the house, this Saturday evening, September 26 at 7 pm.

Born Marsha Carter, the talented performer wrote what would become Children of the Day's classic hit, "For Those Tears I Died (Come to the Water)" when she was just sixteen. One of the most popular songs of the Jesus movement, "For Those Tears I Died" is a moving testimony to God's saving grace, replete with images of baptism and liberation...the song was featured on what was destined to become the most important Christian music album of all time, Maranatha's The Everlastin' Living Jesus Music Concert, the record that put the Jesus movement revival into high gear, spreading its influence from Calvary Chapel in Costa Mesa throughout the country and beyond. "For Those Tears I Died" became one of the best known Christian folk songs of the decade. It would be translated into numerous languages, recorded by countless artists and, for a time, could be found in practically every evangelical songbook in the country. No one in 1969 could have predicted it would have such influence in the decade ahead - much less that, for two decades beyond, Christian congregations would be ripping the song out of their hymnals, systematically binding up the pages and mailing them off to Stevens as a symbol of the hostility they felt toward one who continued to love Jesus and sing His praises when they thought she was no longer entitled to do so...

Stevens became the first (and as of 2002, the only) major singer in the contemporary Christian music subculture to identify herself publicly as a lesbian...Christian Century Magazine has said that Stevens became "conservative Christianity's worst nightmare - a Jesus-loving, Bible-believing, God-fearing lesbian Christian."

Somewhat ironically, Stevens has continued to represent "the spirit of the Jesus movement" more faithfully than anyone else from that era. In the early '70s, Christian bands often traveled the country in vans or buses, playing wherever and whenever they could in exchange for a free-will offering and a chance to give their testimonies.
Likewise, Stevens spent the (past 10 years) in an RV doing from 120-200 concerts a year...she eschews worldly possessions, fame, fortune and all the rest for the simple opportunity of telling the old, old story of Jesus and His love.

Fall Retreat

One Spirit, One Body
For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in the one Spirit we were all
baptized into one body- Jews or Greeks, slaves or free- and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.
-1 Corinthians 12:12-13

CCMCC Retreat
By Sheri Smith, Retreat Team Member

I went on my first Christ Covenant Retreat over 10 years ago and I can still remember it like it was yesterday.  I had never been on a church retreat before and did not know what to expect.

During that weekend I developed friendships that I still value today. I gained a deeper understanding of myself and my spiritual beliefs. I also laughed more than I think I ever had and felt renewed at the end of the retreat.
We have an incredible congregation filled with diverse people and amazing leadership. What better place to bring all of our talents, beliefs and knowledge together than our Christ Covenant Retreat! I encourage you to come be a part of our retreat to laugh, share and to walk away a better You!  Hope to see you there!
