In deep disappointment I have wept over the laxity of the church. But be assured that my tears have been tears of love. There can be no deep disappointment where there is not deep love. Yes, I love the church. How could I do otherwise? Yes, I see the church as the body of Christ. But, oh! How we have blemished and scarred that body through social neglect and through fear of being nonconformists.
-Martin Luther King, Jr. Letter from a Birmingham Jail |
| From Your Pastor... |
|
|
We continue during the Season of Epiphany to explore this question: Who are we? This week, we'll explore our identity as the Body of Christ. Most of us are familiar with this image, especially those who participated in Christ Covenant's 2009 retreat. In our worship this week, we'll ask some questions about what this image implies for our life together as a congregation. We'll consider the relationship ethics that this picture offers us. As Dr. King notes in the quotation from his Letter from a Birmingham Jail, the church has harmed the Body of Christ. But the good news is that a better way is available to us - a way to be a healthy, holy body, comprised of many diverse parts. In preparation for our time together on Sunday, I invite you to envision Christ Covenant as a healthy, holy body - with all parts valued. Use your imagination! See actual people. Dream of relationships and joy. Imagine healing and restoration of hope. Allow that hope to move over those parts of yourself that stifle your imaginings. Then - bring your thoughts with you on Sunday!
And bring a friend, too! I look forward to our time together.
With Love,
Rev Elder Glenna Shepherd Pastor

We would like to extend a very special thanks to Frank Steele for his service to the church during our transition period.
When the church was in need of a pianist, Frank stepped up to the challenge and led us in music during Sunday and special worship services. We appreciate his hard work and are grateful that he is part of our church family.
Our new Coordinator of Music Ministries, Michael Monroe, will begin his work this Sunday, January 24. Please take a moment to say hello and welcome him to our church community.
Peace,
CCMCC Board of Directors |

Looking for new Connections Team members! |
|
Have you been thinking about getting more involved at church and just haven't figured out where you connect best? Well, come connect with the Connections Team because we need you! So, what is Connections? The Oxford dictionary says connections means connecting, being connected, a connecting part. An article in Sunday's AJC said people yearn to belong and be connected.
There is an African term, the Spirit of Ubuntu, which is the belief that our humanity is linked. That's what this team tries to do. We want to find ways to link or connect the people who come to CCMCC.
Have you ever sat in a large group, loved the group but wished you felt like you were connected or belonged? Sometimes people just don't know how or where to go to get involved or feel connected. We want to provide a way for people to come to Christ Covenant and easily find ways to get to know people and find their own connections. It may be through an informal group bowling, cheering at softball games, tailgating at the drive in, game nights, and the possibilities are unlimited!
If you have suggestions for what the Connections Team can do, submit them via email to connections@christcovenantmcc.org or better yet, come join our team! If you are interested in being a team member, see Barbara Bugg.

Leonardo Da Vinci - Hand of the Genius painted the Last Supper during his early Milanese period and courtship of Ludovico Sforza - Duke of Milan in 1482. Contact: Please RSVP your participation and carpooling interest no later than Monday, February 1, by sending an email to connections@christcovenantmcc.org or contact Barbara Bugg at 404-354-0499 or Stacy M. Brown at
423-432-2713.
We look forward to your fellowship and sharing of such a historical and influential painter.

If you like to bowl just for fun, then come join us on Friday nights at Suburban Lanes located in Suburban Plaza which is at the intersection of Church St. and North Decatur Rd.
We meet at 6:30 pm, bowl two games and then go somewhere for dinner as a group. Sometimes lanes are limited because of leagues but we always seem to manage to figure out a way for us all to bowl. We'd love to have you join us!
Cheerleaders are welcome if bowling isn't your thing and some of us need all the cheering we can get! If you have questions, contact Barbara Bugg either at church or via email at: connections@christcovenantmcc.org
