From Your Pastor...
Dear Christ Covenant Friends,

As I sit in my office this morning, I'm looking out the window and thinking of our church's place in our neighborhood, our city, and the world.  What an opportunity we have to be the Body of Christ in this place!  What wonders God can do in and through us as we follow in the ways that Jesus taught and modeled for us!

Our Gospel lesson for this Sunday characterizes Jesus' manner by saying that they were amazed at the gracious words that came from his mouth.  Each of us has opportunities each day to offer gracious words and to be agents of Love and Grace - with each other, at work, in our families and neighborhoods.

In worship on Sunday, we'll continue to consider our question for the Season of Epiphany:  Who Are We?  This week, we claim this identity:  We are people with an ethic of Love and Grace.  We'll consider that familiar passage in the 13th chapter of 1 Corinthians (13: 1 - 13) - I hope you'll take a moment to read through these verses before Sunday.  Paul's writing is both beautifully poetic and stunning in its description of Love's behaviors and character.  Embracing this sort of love - actually integrating it into our living - could change the world!  I have a feeling it would change us, too!

I look forward to greeting you on Sunday morning.  Hope you'll plan to be here and perhaps bring a friend as well.

With Love,
Rev. Glenna signature

The Board Corner
Since Reverend Shepherd's arrival, we have been working with her to shift the daily operations of the Church from a Board responsibility back into the hands of the Pastor and Church Staff.

Now that the transition is complete, we have begun exploring additional financial stability options for our Church, particularly in the areas of our mortgage and monthly income.  In the coming weeks, we will also be working with Reverend Shepherd to create a strategic plan that will place CCMCC as one of the most visible, vibrant and viable churches in Atlanta as we enter 2010 and the years to come.

We have new Ministry Teams, more programs, and
Church-sponsored activities just about every week.  It's a great time to be part of this community, and the perfect time to let your friends know about this happening place called Christ Covenant!

So with that, we issue you a challenge to invite at least one person to church every week!  If you think it feels good to have 80 + people in worship again, just wait and see how it feels when it's 150, then 200, and so on, and so on...

Peace and Blessings,
Board of Directors

Looking for new Connections Team members!
Have you been thinking about getting more involved at church and just haven't figured out where you connect best? Well, come connect with the Connections Team because we need you!

So, what is Connections? The Oxford dictionary says connections means connecting, being connected, a connecting part. An article in Sunday's AJC said people yearn to belong and be connected.

There is an African term, the Spirit of Ubuntu, which is the belief that our humanity is linked. That's what this team tries to do. We want to find ways to link or connect the people who come to CCMCC.

Have you ever sat in a large group, loved the group but wished you felt like you were connected or belonged?  Sometimes people just don't know how or where to go to get involved or feel connected. We want to provide a way for people to come to Christ Covenant and easily find opportunities to get to know people and form their own connections. It may be through an informal group bowling, cheering at softball games, tailgating at the drive in, or game nights - the possibilities are unlimited!

If you have suggestions for what the Connections Team can do, please submit them via email to connections@christcovenantmcc.org or better yet, come join our team!  If you are interested in being a team member, see Barbara Bugg.
Connections Outing: Leonardo Da Vinci Exhibition
Thursday, February 4, 2010 6pm
Are you looking for something to do now that football tailgating has ended and Alabama has won the National Championship?  Are you looking for warm places to mingle with your church friends?  Have you ever had a conversation about or seen the portrait, The Last Supper, in churches, books or movies?  Leonardo Da Vinci - Hand of the Genius painted the Last Supper during his early Milanese period and courtship of Ludovico Sforza - Duke of Milan in 1482.  He also painted the Mona Lisa in 1499 after he returned to Florence due to the French invasion of the City of Milan.

The Connections Team invites you, Thursday, February 4, at 6pm to experience the High Museum of Art Exhibition: Leonardo Da Vinci - Hand of the Genius

Yes, it's on a Thursday because tickets are half price on Thursdays only after 4pm.  Carpooling is encouraged and those interested will meet in the church parking lot at 5:15pm for a prompt departure time of 5:30pm. If you can't meet us to car pool, you can meet us at the High Museum.

Tickets: Adult $18, Children (ages 6-17) $11, Senior (65+) $15, and Student (ID required to enter) $5.

Contact: Please RSVP your participation and carpooling interest no later than Monday, February 1, by sending an email to connections@christcovenantmcc.org or contact Barbara Bugg at 404-354-0499 or Stacy M. Brown at
423-432-2713.

We look forward to your fellowship and sharing of such a historical and influential painter.
Recreational Bowling
If you like to bowl just for fun, then come join us on Friday nights at Suburban Lanes located in Suburban Plaza which is at the intersection of Church St. and North Decatur Rd.

We meet at 6:30 pm, bowl two games and then go somewhere for dinner as a group. Sometimes lanes are limited because of leagues but we always seem to manage to figure out a way for us all to bowl. We'd love to have you join us!

Cheerleaders are welcome if bowling isn't your thing and some of us need all the cheering we can get!  If you have questions, contact Barbara Bugg either at church or via email at:  connections@christcovenantmcc.org

*This is a Connections Team sponsored activity.
