| From Your Pastor... |

Dear Christ Covenant Friends,
I am a fan of Minimalism in art and design. I love the clean lines, the space for breathing that the starkness offers me. While minimalist décor may not be your preference, it may be a helpful analogy to the spiritual wilderness to which Lent calls us. In both design and the spiritual life, simplicity is both deceptive and creative. Here's what I mean: Because the lines and objects are minimal, you can begin to notice the richness and beauty "between the lines" - the shadow and shape, the interplay of elements. And the peace offered by a lack of busyness can leave visual, emotional and spiritual space for creative thoughts and images to emerge. Our hearts and minds turn inward - or, perhaps more acurately, our hearts and minds open to engage our environment. Without sensory overload, we're invited within. In the starkness of wilderness, we turn from the distractions that compete for our attention. The shadows call us to attend to our own shadows: the low-grade fears that silently stalk us, the unresolved pain that plagues us, our inner beasts that inhabit our spiritual landscape. If we dare enter Lent's wilderness of self-examination, surprises await us! Far from being about tormenting ourselves with our defects of character or our shortcomings, the wilderness offers sweet relief, the Presence of Love and Sustenance that can sweep our souls clean.
The Gospel of Mark speaks of Jesus' experience of this relief: He was with the wild beasts; and the angels waited on him.
Our worship during Lent will explore the shadow, beauty, stark realities and relief in this Lenten wilderness. I hope you'll be companions on this journey. I look forward to seeing you on Sunday.
With Love and Blessing,
Rev Elder Glenna Shepherd Pastor |

Our financial planning is well under way. We continue to look for ways for giving to be more more convenient for our congregants and more consistent so that we have positive cash flow . Please pray for the financial health of our congregation and continue to be the generous congregation that you are.
Our financial planning group will meet regularly until we have a solid plan for building our future.
This week, the Board will review and revise our SOP's. We seek to make updates that will more accurately reflect how work gets accomplished.
Please continue to pray with and for your Board as we move forward with the work of our Church. We are committed to serving you and this community of faith.
Peace and Blessings,
Board of Directors |

| Spiritual Direction |
|
What is Spiritual Direction? There are probably as many ways to define spiritual direction as there are spiritual directors. For me, it's a process of helping people strengthen, deepen and enlarge their relationship with God. Unlike therapy where the healing relationship is between the therapist and the client, in spiritual direction, the main relationship is between the client and God. My job as director or companion is to help with that relationship. Who is God for you? How has your religious training up to now limited that answer for you? Can you trust this God, really trust? How have past religious experiences shaped your answer? Just as our relationships with a person are different from everyone else's relationship with that person, so it is with our relationship with God. Opening up these questions of who God is and what your relationship with God entails can be very scary and confusing. My role is to keep you steady and safe as you allow more exploration and experimentation and seek more fullness in your relationship with God.
For an appointment, please email me at sallybpurvis@mac.com. My fees are based upon ability to pay. Peace and Blessings, Rev. Dr. Sally Purvis |
| Recreational Bowling |
|
|
If you like to bowl just for fun, then come join us on Friday nights at Suburban Lanes located in Suburban Plaza which is at the intersection of Church St. and North Decatur Rd.
We meet at 6:30 pm, bowl two games and then go somewhere for dinner as a group. Sometimes lanes are limited because of leagues but we always seem to manage to figure out a way for us all to bowl. We'd love to have you join us!
Cheerleaders are welcome if bowling isn't your thing and some of us need all the cheering we can get! If you have questions, contact Barbara Bugg either at church or via email at: connections@christcovenantmcc.org
*This is a Connections Team sponsored activity. |
