| From Your Pastor... |

Dear Christ Covenant Friends,
We are almost mid-way into the Season of Lent, halfway through our Chosen Wilderness.
As a congregation, we've entered Lent's wilderness in worship and through the art of film. Individually, we've examined our lives, considering how we engage in negative emotion and action. All this is in hope and wonder, as we feel the Spirit breathing new life into us. In some ways, Lent and an Installation Celebration seem an odd juxtapostion. I've been pondering that as we prepare for Sunday's service. And I've come to some conclusions. Perhaps you could ponder them for yourselves as well. Lent is a season of introspection and contemplation. The Rite of Installation calls us - congregation as well as pastor - to look within as we recommit ourselves to the mission and ministry that we share in this place. We have examined our hearts and prayed as we've come to the decision to take this journey together. As in Lent's wilderness, we have longed - congregation and pastor - for the guidance of the Spirit, for God's shelter and care, for the provision of what we need. Remembering this longing, we can recognize the leading of God that has brought us together and trust the One who has guarded and guided, to lead us into a blessed future together. Lent calls us into the Deep - emotionally, spiritually, and in mission. I want us to be a congregation that deals in the depths of life - that is, the things that bring meaning and purpose. Together I want us to engage the challenge and beauty of the depths, finding the wonder of the Spirit in all life has to offer. And, finally, Lent calls us to give - to serve those in need and to give up that which holds us captive. As we come together in Sunday's Installation, we make promises to serve, to give, and to grow. Perhaps Lent and an Installation Celebration aren't such strange bedfellows after all! I just can't wait to be with you on Sunday as we open ourselves to all God is calling us to be and do together.
With Love and Blessing,
Rev Elder Glenna Shepherd Pastor |

This Sunday, March 7th is a special day in the history of Christ Covenant. We will be installing The Reverend Elder Glenna Shepherd, our Founding Pastor, as our Senior Pastor. We have an exciting service planned and invite you all to attend. It's a celebration that you don't want to miss! The service will begin with a processional of CCMCC and guest clergy. Our Choral group will provide special music including solos from talented members of our church family. There will be old friends and new faces here to welcome and receive Rev. Shepherd into her church home. Following the service, there will be a reception and time for fellowship.
This is the official beginning of something new and wonderful for CCMCC, and we want to share it with you. Make plans to join us this Sunday and bring a friend or two! Blessings,
Board of Directors |

Michelle Robinson (one of our newest member) would like to invite anyone interested to join her March 9 at 7:15pm for an evening with one of her favorite authors Karen Spears Zacharias.
Karen Spears Zacharias will be at the Decatur Library, sponsored by the Georgia Center For The Book, to read from & discuss her most recent work "Will Jesus Buy Me A Double-Wide: (Cause I need more room for my plasma TV."). Per Decatur Library: Zacharias, who grew up in Georgia, visits us with an unforgettable new book of sad, funny, poignant stories about some unforgettable characters, Will Jesus Buy Me a Double-Wide? 'Cause I Need More Room for my Plasma TV. Zacharias' book is "a spirit-infused meditation on gratuitous wealth and barely gettin' by," and Jeff Foxworthy says the author is a writer "not afraid to talk with real people and speak the truth." Her books include After the Flag Has Been Folded, a heartwarming look back at her experiences growing up after the death of her father in Vietnam, and Where's Your Jesus Now? Examining How Fear Erodes Our Faith. http://blog.al.com/living-press-register/2010/02/karen_zacharias_new_book_takes.html

Living the Questions with Rev Dr Sally Purvis
Every Wednesday
April 14-June 20 |
|
People know that at its core, Christianity has something good to offer humanity. At the same time, many have a sense that they are alone in being a "thinking" Christian and that "salvaging" Christianity is a hopeless task. What is needed is a safe environment where people have permission to ask the questions they've always wanted to ask but have been afraid to voice for fear of being thought a heretic.
Living the Questions is a source of curriculum and media for both seekers and "church alumni/ae" convinced that Christianity still has relevance in the 21st Century. Providing a variety of flexible resources, Living the Questions can help people explore the future of Christianity and what a meaningful faith can look like in today's world.

| Spiritual Direction |
|
What is Spiritual Direction? There are probably as many ways to define spiritual direction as there are spiritual directors. For me, it's a process of helping people strengthen, deepen and enlarge their relationship with God. Unlike therapy where the healing relationship is between the therapist and the client, in spiritual direction, the main relationship is between the client and God. My job as director or companion is to help with that relationship. Who is God for you? How has your religious training up to now limited that answer for you? Can you trust this God, really trust? How have past religious experiences shaped your answer? Just as our relationships with a person are different from everyone else's relationship with that person, so it is with our relationship with God. Opening up these questions of who God is and what your relationship with God entails can be very scary and confusing. My role is to keep you steady and safe as you allow more exploration and experimentation and seek more fullness in your relationship with God.
For an appointment, please email me at sallybpurvis@mac.com.
*My fees are based upon ability to pay. Peace and Blessings, Rev. Dr. Sally Purvis |
